Turkish Olive Oil Market: What International Buyers Should Watch in 2026/27

As Türkiye enters the 2026/27 olive harvest season, attention is turning to the outlook for olive oil production, product availability and international trade.

For importers, wholesalers, distributors and food-service companies, the beginning of a new season is an important time to follow production developments and review sourcing plans for the months ahead.

A New Season Begins in Türkiye

The 2026/27 olive season has started with early harvest activities in several important olive-growing regions. In Ayvalık, the first olive harvest and olive oil pressing of the season took place in September, marking the beginning of a new production cycle.

Meanwhile, Türkiye’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has started its 2026 olive crop-estimation programme across 41 olive-producing provinces, involving 370 technical personnel and managers. These studies will provide a clearer picture of the season as harvesting progresses.

Positive Expectations for the 2026/27 Crop

The Turkish olive and olive oil industry entered the season with positive expectations.

In June, the Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Association stated that initial indications from production regions pointed towards the possibility of one of Türkiye’s strongest olive crops. However, final production volumes will become clearer as the harvest develops.

For international buyers, a strong crop could create new sourcing opportunities, but production volume alone does not determine market conditions.

Product quality, oil category, availability, international prices, exchange rates, packaging requirements and logistics can all influence purchasing decisions.

Export Markets Remain Important

The new season also begins after a challenging period for Turkish olive oil exports.

According to sector data reported in September, Türkiye’s olive oil exports between November 2025 and August 2026 declined significantly compared with the previous season, both in volume and value. Bulk olive oil exports experienced an especially pronounced decline.

The combination of a potentially stronger new crop and changing international market conditions therefore makes the 2026/27 season particularly important for exporters and international buyers.

What Should International Buyers Watch?

During the coming months, B2B buyers should follow several factors rather than focusing only on headline production figures.

Product availability and specifications will become clearer as the harvest progresses. Buyers should also consider their required product characteristics, packaging formats, quantities and delivery schedules when planning purchases.

Market prices can also vary according to origin, category, quality and international supply conditions. Early communication with suppliers can therefore help buyers understand available options and prepare sourcing programmes more effectively.
